May's Journey - May

This is May, the main character from the educational coding game May’s Journey (https://maysjourney.com), created by Chaima Jemmali. 100% unlit, handpainted diffuse only. Modeled in Maya. Face and hair sculpted in ZBrush, then retopod with basic color baked. Texturing started in Substance Painter for basic maps/masks, and mostly done in 3DCoat and Photoshop. Character design and concept art by Ali Swei (http://www.aliswei.com). The character in game was rigged/animated by Dan Cherkassky (https://www.dancherkassky.com/) but the posed Sketchfab model shown here was my own quick test with Maya's auto-rig.

May 3D turnaround. This is my own quick placement for the scarf and bag, not their final pose in the game.

May textures. Handpainted in Photoshop and 3DCoat with some masking from Substance Painter. I put the scarf on the texture sheet for the bag since it fit well vertically. Separate textures for head and for hair, everything else on one sheet.
